National Symbols

OrzełPolish symbols include the flag, the Polish Eagle, anthem.

The Polish flag has two colours: white on the top and red on the bottom. The white symbolizes purity, and the red colour symbolizes pride and the country’s greatness. Officially the flag was established as a national emblem in 1919.

The Polish emblem is a grand white eagle, with a crown. His head is turned to the right and his wings are spread and his paws are gold on the red background. This emblem was established in 1918. During the communist era, the crown was removed, in 1990 the eagle with the crown returned as the symbol of the Polish Republic.

The Polish flag with the Polish eagle on the white background is the official symbol used outside of Poland.

The Polish Anthem, “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego”, by Józef Wybicki was officially established in 1927.

Mazurek Dąbrowskiego

Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła,
Kiedy my żyjemy.
Co nam obca przemoc wzięła,
Szabla odbierzemy.

Marsz, marsz Dąbrowski,
Z ziemi włoskiej do Polski,
Z twoim przewodem
Złączym sie z narodem.

Przejdziem Wisłę, przejdziem Warte,
Będziem Polakami,
Dal nam przykład Bonaparte,
Jak zwyciężać mamy.

Marsz, marsz, Dąbrowski…

Jak Czarniecki do Poznania
Po szwedzkim zaborze,
Dla ojczyzny ratowania
Wracał sie przez morze.

Marsz, marsz, Dąbrowski…
